You will be welcomed on arrival by our friendly reception team, where you’ll be asked to complete a medical history form and wait to be called in by the dentist for your examination. We will also require some details about dental treatment you have received in the past & your expectations for your future treatment.
You will be shown into the surgery and given time to settle down before your examination or treatment begins. Rest assured that we use a range of state of the art equipment to enable us to diagnose and treat problems as easily as possible. We’re also fully computerised which means that your records are always easily accessible by our dentists and staff.
Your first appointment will be with one of the dentists in our team which is an opportunity for you to get to know each other. They will talk to you in detail to find out what you would like them to do for you. Then they will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, soft tissue, jaw joints, and occlusion (bite). They will normally take digital X-rays as these show what can’t be seen directly, for example the areas between, inside and underneath your teeth, gums, and the bone supporting your teeth. These are often essential for diagnosing the causes of pain or discomfort. The dentist will talk to you about, and explain, treatment options and provide a written estimate. They may also recommend that you see one of our Dental Hygienists to maintain your oral health.
Our hygienists are registered and experienced dental care professionals who have the responsibility of helping you keep your mouth in the best possible state of health. The gums and bone around your teeth are their foundations, and preventing and treating periodontal (gum) disease is of prime importance for a healthy, pain free mouth throughout life. Your hygienist will carry out a thorough investigation of your gums to identify any areas that could be vulnerable to gum disease. They will explain exactly what they find and involve you in discovering the best ways for you to remove the damaging plaque from all the nooks and crannies where it collects, by tooth brushing, flossing, and other techniques.
The hygienist will carry out any necessary professional cleaning. If you have gum disease which is more advanced, then more than one visit may be necessary.
We’ll arrange your next appointment to fit your diary. Friday afternoon and Saturday appointments are available because we know many people need to juggle work and family. We sell a range of competitively priced oral hygiene products from our shop which you can visit before you leave. We know that it’s easy to get out of the habit of seeing a dentist. So if it’s been a while, don’t worry, we are here to help. We look forward to seeing you.
